Praised for her ‘breath-taking skills’ (BBC Radio 2), harpist Emily Hoile is in demand as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician throughout Europe. Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne UK, she has won prizes worldwide for her solo performance, notably at the USA International Harp Competition 2013 and Cité des Arts International Harp Competition 2011.

Between 2015-2017, Emily performed as Principal Harpist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony. As an orchestral harpist, Emily is regularly invited to play with some of the world’s most renowned ensembles such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, NDR Elbphilharmie Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and Mahler Chamber Orchestra. She has also performed in festivals including the Verbier Festival, Aspen Music Festival, the BBC Proms and Lammermuir Festival, where she was the Young Artist in Residence. She was also selected to represent Britain at the World Harp Congress in Amsterdam.

As a passionate performer of new music, Emily played regularly with the New Juilliard Ensemble and AXIOM with whom she performed mammoth works of the twentieth and twenty-first century such as Pierre Boulez’ ‘Sur Incises’ and ‘Derive II’. Dedicated to furthering the harp repertoire, Emily commissioned and premiered solo works for harp by Molly Joyce and Han Chen. Equally at home on the clarsach (folk harp) Emily performed at the first ever Folk Prom in the Royal Albert Hall, has collaborated with artists such as Sting, Kathryn Tickell, and Ajimal as well as being a finalist in the BBC Young Folk Awards.

A graduate of the Juilliard School as a student of Nancy Allen, Emily began her musical education at St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh. She became the first ever British harp academist of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2014, studying with Marie-Pierre Langlamet. Emily is indebted to the teachings of all her mentors, including Germaine Lorenzini, Catriona Mckay, Helen Macleod and Isobel Mieras.

Emily is pleased to announce that she can now safely play the harp in high heels.

Zu hören war ein von faszinierender atmosphärischer Dichte getragener Vortrag voller klanglicher Reize von entwaffnender Schönheit.
